Security is tight as protesters take over the National Mall on the 5th anniversary of the war in Iraq

Along with the protesters, police officers were a major presence on the National Mall and were eager to show their authority

A line of motorcycles was intimidating

There seemed to be more motorcycles than officers

They also arrived on horseback, determined to make their presence known

Cars lined the streets

While some were driven through crowds, at some points looking as if they might hit protesters who refused to move out of the way

The officers had every intention of getting up close and personal with the protesters

And even surrounded the crowd

They stood, and did not seem fazed by the days events

Some officers went as far as to block off areas with caution tape, an attempt to secure the area

In the end officers rode away on motorcycles, bicycles, horses and in cars, because their authority was no longer needed
